Attend our presentation at CLEO: Thursday, May 8th, at 9:15 AM We will be presenting the latest updates in our research and testing with Aperture Enlargement of LBO crystals.
Large-aperture laser materials such as crystalline gain media and nonlinear optical crystals are essential for the success of high-energy lasers, but attractive crystals, such as LBO, are often not available in large enough sizes. An optically seamless and inherently scalable process for aperture enlargement is reported here. The enlargement is done using diffusion bonding of LBO crystals. A bonded crystal is shown to deliver beam quality and second harmonic conversion efficiency that are equivalent to that of a monolithic crystal of similar dimensions. This presentation reports on the feasibility testing of this technique to create larger apertures.
