Potassium gadolinium tungstate - KGd(WO4)2

GAMDAN Optics, Inc. KGW Crystal

KGW (Potassium gadolinium tungstate)

Potassium gadolinium tungstate, (KGd(WO4)2, is known as KGW.  Crystalline KGW features good mechanical properties and relatively good thermal conductivity of 2.6 to 3.8 Wcm-1K-1, depending upon orientation. Their internal structure and clarity make them ideal for high-precision laser work.

Their role is crucial in generating specific wavelengths or enhancing laser efficiency through stimulated Raman scattering or direct lasing when doped with ions.

What types of applications use KGW?

Engineered for picosecond regimes, our un-doped KGW crystals deliver exceptional damage thresholds—ideal for scalable high-power applications. KGW crystals are used in applications ranging from spectroscopy and micro-machining to medical diagnostics and telecommunications.

Un-doped KGW crystals excel in high-intensity laser environments where stability and nonlinear performance are critical. Their robust optical properties support efficient optical-to-terahertz frequency conversion, making them ideal for ultrafast spectroscopy, terahertz imaging, and power-scalable Raman systems.

Below is an example where you can see the KGW crystal inside the Raman cavity.
